By election:
Let’s be honest- there are currently no committee spaces. This role is one of a back-bencher. I promise to make it my job to highlight what is really happening in the States by asking questions, and laying amendments/requettes. Having previous experience, I can hit the ground running; it won't take me a year or two to get up to speed.

Future plans, vision & policies

I support looking towards Guernseys long term future and considering the bigger picture. There are many things to try and solve in the next term. As I say, one of the things I stand for is fixing the root cause of the problem, not just the symptom. If you are driving a car on a road of nails you don’t just change the tyre when you get a puncture- you clear the nails.

Taxation:
Global conflicts are causing significant instability and will substantially increase inflation. I believe now would be the wrong time to increase GST. The pressures facing everyone already reduce the amount of money in the economy. Increasing GST will compound that and slow spending further. We all make decisions on what to cut back on, the states needs to do the same. Far too much taxpayer money is wasted; by voting no to GST- savings will have to be made.
-
Savings: Some of the biggest savings come from government-wide changes such as: removing non-essential overtime, removing the use of travel agencies, non-local recruitment agencies, introducing internal captive insurance schemes, and ‘new-to-the-island’ compulsory health insurance. These savings could amount to many millions.

Economy & AI:
The world is getting tougher, our finance sector is vital. We must support it wherever we can—while also diversifying. Here are key steps I believe we should take to strengthen and future-proof our economy:

-
Diversification: Entrepreneurs, new ventures and opportunities should be supported, they can mitigate against shocks from any sector. With the decline in globalisation, food and energy security is more impantant than ever. We need to grow more of our own food, and generate more of our own energy- we need to be more self sustaining.
-
Skills + Education: Artificial intelligence is quietly transforming the economy. We need to urgently plan how to re-skill and upskill. Upskilling our workforce is key to driving innovation, boosting productivity and securing economic growth.

Birth Rate & Demographics:
We have a declining birth rate and a changing demographic. When looking at the long-term sustainability of our island, we need to address this. I believe we need to help our local and young people to stay on the island whilst making sure we can cope with changing demands. Here are some ideas I will push for:
-
Implement an early years strategy designed to help out with the costs of having children.
-
Prioritise the selection of local candidates over off-island ones.
-
Help young families trying to conceive with help towards IVF treatment.

Government & Procedure:
Our consensus system has its challenges—too often, key issues are revisited and delayed. Those delays aren’t just frustrating; they’ve cost us millions. We need a more decisive, accountable approach.

I support reviewing and streamlining our machinery of government. I’ll also suggest amendments to reform procedures so decisions are based on evidence and impartial financial analysis—not politics.

Currently, deputies are often left to scrutinise their own work. That’s not good enough.

Independent scrutiny would make decision-making more transparent, strengthen public trust, and help us dig deeper into the issues that matter. It could also lead to significant savings for taxpayers by catching problems earlier.
